Westville
watch
Update: 28th February 2009
There has been no obvious news about
the future of the Westville Watch. The potential for dissemination
of news to and fro between the Westville CPF and the Community via some
form of printed
media is seen to be
vital.
Not every interested person has access to the Internet.
We are fortunate to have a solution and wish to advise that a new printed
media in the form of a bimonthly FREE magazine "CrimeZero" will be launched
towards the middle of March 2010. The distribution plan should ensure that
it will reach all of the residences, businesses, schools and shopping
malls in Westville. A public launching will take place at the
WCPF public meeting on Tuesday 16th March at 18h00 at the Westville
Baptist Church in Church Road, Westville opposite SPAR. We wish Richard
and Shirley Palmer every success with this venture.
DUE TO SEVERAL FACTORS COMPOUNDED BY THE
CURRENT ECONOMIC SITUATION THE WESTVILLE
WATCH
IS NOT ABLE TO
CONTINUE AT THIS TIME. THE
WESTVILLE WATCH
HAD A DISTRIBUTION
THAT REACHED MANY WHO HAD NO OTHER FEEDBACK AS TO WHAT WAS HAPPENING
WITH RESPECT TO CRIME PREVENTION IN WESTVILLE. IF ANYONE HAS A
SUGGESTION AS TO WHAT CAN BE DONE TO FACILITATE ITS RETURN, PLEASE
CONTACT Julian Carter at the following email address:

Westville Watch is an important monthly publication that
provides information about the work being done by the Westville Community
Police Forum (CPF) and the Westville SAPS. It is now delivered by the Post Office and should
reach all Westville residents. The Westville Watch is available
from stands in Shopping Malls.
Few residents have access to the internet and the
Westville Watch ensures that those who don't have access are informed .

On the 12th May 2008 at approximately 11h00, members of the
Westville CSC spotted a blue VW Jetta with Licence number ND
293015 that was used in a housebreaking in David Mclean Drive.
Attempts to stop the motor vehicle failed as the motor vehicle
sped off. A high speed chase ensued. Members of the Crime
Prevention then chased the motor vehicle along Blair Atholl Road
where the motor vehicle lost control and crashed. Four
suspects were arrested in the motor vehicle while one suspect
attempted to flee on foot. The Crime Prevention members
chased the suspect and apprehended him. The suspects were linked
to a housebreaking in David Mclean Drive. Investigations further
revealed that the motor vehicle fled the scene of an attempted
theft of a motor vehicle when the Police spotted the first stolen
motor vehicle of the suspects.. Investigations led the
members of the Crime Prevention to Kwa Mashu where the stolen
property was recovered. The suspects were arrested and linked to a
Westville case of housebreaking and a Pinetown case of attempted
theft of a motor vehicle.
On the 13th May 2008 at approximately 13h00
Insp. J.J. Duma from the detective Services received a tip off
pertaining to suspects involved in a house braking that occurred

as the CSC Patrol van and then proceeded to Chesterville and
located the suspects in a shack. The door was forced open and five
suspects as well as all of the stolen property was found in the
shack. All five suspects were arrested and detained and the
property was recovered. The suspects appeared in Pinetown G Court
on the 16th May 2008.
