SMS NAYBERS and SPECIAL
INITIATIVE IN WESTVILLE
Today we don’t know who our neighbours are anymore. Neighbours have built huge walls and electric fences around their properties. In their attempt to protect themselves from the threat of crime, they have unintentionally blocked themselves off from the neighbours in their street that offer security awareness and support!
There are many benefits of knowing and being able to communicate with our neighbour that SMS NAYBERS wants to bring back!
HOW: SMS NAYBERS will activate your street so that you can communicate with all the neighbours in your street by sending only ONE text message!! The message will go out to all the neighbours in your street, instantly!
SMS NAYBERS has already linked streets in the Highway area, just to name a few: Uplands Drive, Upland s Place, Kenilworth Drive, Glen Drive, Abelia Road, Willingdon, Cato Road, Meadow Rd and Hillbrow.
SMS NAYBERS AND WESTVILLE POLICE JOINING
The Westville Police support SMS NAYBERS initiative of Getting To Know Your Neighbour.
SMS NAYBERS is running an initiative in Westville whereby SMS NAYBERS will include Superintendent Singh, from the Westville Police, in every street activated in Westville, so that he can see your communication with your neighbour. He will then be more aware of what is happening with the neighbours in the Westville Community with regard to burglaries etc.
BENEFITS of Communicating with your neighbour with SMS NAYBERS:
1) AWARENESS:
1. BURGLARIES: You can make each other aware if you have been burgled:
For example “I have just been robbed, they broke through my front door, took TV, watch out lock your doors and put you alarms on!” Jenny
2. SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: You can make each other aware if you have seen someone suspicious
3. AWAY ON HOLIDAY: You can let your neighbours know you are away so that your neighbours are aware of that and can then inform you if they see someone strange in your garden. (you will receive the message even if in another province)
2) IMMEDIATE SUPPORT GROUP
With 1 text message you can ask for help from 5/10/20 neighbours that are 2 minutes away from you:
For example: If your husband has had a heart attack, you know that with one SMS it will be sent out to 5/10/20 neighbours in your street who are right near you who can come help you, while you wait for the medics.
3) LOST A PET
You can send a message to your neighbours that you have lost a pet:
I.e. “Lost our grey and white cat, wearing red collar, please call me on 0847074003 if you see her?” Sally
4) BRAAI’S/MEETINGS
You can get to know each other by asking your neighbours over for a braai or tea party
5) RUNNING/CYCLING
You can organize to run with your neighbours or cycle:
I.e. “Going for a run at 6 am tomorrow morning, meet me at my house if keen to Join” Frank
How to get connected with your neighbours in your street
2 SIMPLE STEPS:
Step 1: You just need to be willing to use your house as a meeting place/venue for your neighbours who live in your street to meet so they can hear about the SMS NAYBERS system. (You don’t need to supply food or do anything else!)
Step 2: Contact: Joanna Carlson at SMS NAYBERS on 031 7640888 or 0847074003 or e-mail:jcarlson@smsnaybers.co.za. to tell her you will be a host/venue for your neighbours
…AND SMS NAYBERS WILL DO THE REST!
SMS NAYBERS will get the neighbours to your house.
SMS NAYBERS will talk to your neighbours for 30 minutes about the system and you as neighbours can decide there and then if you would like to be connected or not.
Cost per neighbour/cell number to be connected ONLY R195 for the year!!
