Minutes of the Westville Community Policing Forum Meeting
Held on 18 January 2011 at 18h00.

Welcome: Mr Kevin Harvey welcomed all present for the New Year, especially Metro Supt. Lionet and Lt.Col. Stewart recently transferred to SAPS Westville.

Apologies: Cllr Fawzia Peer, David Bramley, Julian Carter.

Attendance: As per attendance register.

Confirmation of minutes: The previous Minutes were confirmed by Mr Roger Day and seconded by Mr Andy Tribe.

Matters Arising: Kevin Harvey announced that the AGM of the Westville CPF would be held in February 2011.

Bust of the Month: Cst Clark announced that the Bust was awarded to Cst Morgan Govender for the arrest of suspects and the recovery of an arms cache in Westville.

Crime Report:  Lt. Col. Stewart presented the Crime Report for the Festive Season. He noted that incidents of common theft had increased due to shoppers carrying more cash and gifts and not being alert. He further noted that cases of armed robbery including car jacking and house robbery were markedly down. Most other crime had remained stable due to the increased presence of extra crime prevention vehicles on patrol 24 hours a day over November, December and January.

Guest Speaker: Niven Reddy of Security Management Solutions presented a talk and showed video clips about ATM fraud, card swapping and theft. He explained and demonstrated how criminals use tactics to distract victims in order to clone cards. Niven explained further how his organisation works alongside the banks and SAPS in filming, tracing and convicting members of the fraud syndicates.
