Minutes of the Westville Community Policing Forum Meeting - held on 20th April 2010 at 18h00

Welcome:
Mr Kevin Harvey welcomed all present, especially: Col(F) Emmanuel, Metro Supt Lionet, Councillor Fawzia Peer and guest speaker, Mr Peter Burke.

Apologies:
 Mr Nick Potgieter (Blue Security), Mr Malcolm Hawkey, W/O David Bramley, Mr Sipho Ndluli.

Confirmation of previous minutes:
Held over to next month.

Matters Arising:
 Nil.

Bust of the month:
Constables Morris and Vezi for three arrests for housebreaking and robbery.

Guest Speaker:
 Mr Peter Burke, a business strategist, presented a talk on how business principles could be applied to our approach to crime. Essentially, create a time critical analysis of the current situation, the desired future situation, and how one aims to achieve that. It would be important to realise where one had options to act, and where one doesn’t.

Crime Report: 
Mrs Karen Delport presented the crime report. There were still concerns with theft of and out of motor vehicles at various shopping centres. Housebreaking had stabilised but still presented problems in Berea West, Sector 3.

Service Delivery Improvement Program:
Mr Rusty Damp presented his findings of levels of service delivery to the community and reported they were mostly satisfactory. He noted that there had been improvements in the time taken for fingerprint experts to attend a scene. 

General: 
Residents near no 52 Jan Hofmeyer rd informed the meeting that they were experiencing severe problems with the vagrants who reside at the vacant house. Councillor Peer and Supt Lionet responded as to what action could be taken and their willingness to assist.

Mr Harvey and Cllr Peer explained the new security measures which had been put in place at the Civic Centre to kerb theft of motor vehicles there.
