Karl from 911 Monitoring presented a talk on his CCTV product. It is applicable to both home and small to medium businesses. The footage is viewed and recorded off site. This, he said, ensured impartiality, independence and less cost to the client in terms of staff training and setup.
Robert Ferguson of the Durban Youth Council spoke about several projects they are doing in co-operation with the Westville SAPS in line with the 16 days activism, violence against women. They will be holding a car wash for State, Metro and Security Vehicles on the 28th November; they will be painting the Westville SAPS cells on the 5th December and in between, assist in handing out flyers warning domestic workers of the dangers of criminals and advice to prevent crime.
Floyd Ngcobo, Chairman of the Chesterville Residents’ Association, in partnership with “Vukakhanye” and the Westville Christian Fellowship. He explained the purpose of the Street Committees in Chesterville were to assist the SAPS in crime fighting by providing information relating to the whereabouts of criminals and stolen goods. He emphasised that they also did social work such as AIDS support and social work in the community. He said they intend working closely with both the Community and the SAPS in Westville to reduce crime in both areas. He said that the Residents Association was completely non-political and did not align itself with any political party.
They also had a program running called “Sports for All” which endeavours to keep young people off the street, to focus their energy into all different sports and keep them motivated and ambitious for a good, healthy life.
